They will learn the techniques of striding, stopping, stick and puck handling, turning, passing and shooting. Chipmunks Hockey introduces the rules of hockey and develops the skills needed to play on a team in the near future.
Typically each class has a Skating instructor and a Hockey skills instructor to provide smaller coach to player ratio, and to include both skating fundamentals as well as hockey skills. Group rotation is used to allow each player to have equal time in both areas. There is usually a scrimmage game that follows to end the class.
- All skaters must have single bladed skates, well supported around the ankles, CSA approved helmet with full face cage and warm clothes (waterproof) including gloves or mitts. (Bicycle helmets are not permitted).
- Hockey Programs: hockey gloves, stick, helmet, full face cage and full equipment (depending on the program) will be required.
Beginners: The only pre-requisite for Beginners is that the child can stand up by themselves and move forwards. A push glide and/or stride is not required.
Advanced: Basic stride & push glide, stronger backward skating.
Elite: A developed stride, strong backward skating, knowledge of edges. Interest in pursuing hockey.

This program is for children who are interested in learning more about hockey. Designed for ages 3-7 , the program teaches our students basic hockey skills in a safe, play-oriented environment.
This program runs Sundays and does not involve external games or tournaments. Once athletes have developed core hockey skills, they can progress to playing house or competitive hockey.
Students start in Chipmunks Beginner and will be told when they are ready to progress to Chipmunks Advanced or Intro to Hockey: Elite.
